Black History Month Spotlight: Teneil Taylor

What personal passions bring you to Delphix?

I started my career in customer service in the hospitality industry, so I have always been interested in the human experience. This curiosity has sparked my passion to help companies build purpose-driven organizations. I love interacting with people, and my role at Delphix heavily focuses on helping our employees feel inspired and energized to come to work while supporting them with career development. I joined Delphix because I wanted to learn more about how data can impact decision-making and apply those learnings to the employee experience here.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month is a month to celebrate the contributions and achievements of black people and pay homage to those who have impacted black culture and society. To celebrate how far we have come and the progression we have made.

Who inspires you?

I come from a performing arts background and studied dance and musical theatre at NYU and BADA (London). My two inspirations have been Debbie Allen and Misty Copeland, two strong women who have played big roles in breaking barriers to change the image of the dance world.

How does being black impact the way that you approach diversity & inclusion?

My background has helped me approach diversity and inclusion with different perspectives. I am biracial and was fortunate to grow up in the Bay Area, which felt like a utopia of diversity and inclusion. I attended a high school that was a melting pot of different languages, cultures, and communities. My experiences and background have taught me the importance of having an open mind and ways in which diversity can expose people to new ideas and ways of thinking across all facets of our lives. Although as a society, there is still a lot of work to do to improve inequality, I strive to use my voice and passion to build a more inclusive workplace and world everyday.

What’s your favorite mantra or quote?

One of my favorite quotes is from Maya Angelou: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." A lot of times we blindly walk in the beliefs that are not the truth. This quote reminds me to constantly strive to know the truth as it will lead towards what is right and just.
