Earth Day at Delphix

In celebration of Earth Day, on April 23, Delphix contributed half a day at Bedwell Bayfront Park in Menlo Park.  Just a few short miles from Delphix Headquarters, Bedwell Park is a landfill site converted into a lovely park that is well used by hikers, joggers, kite flyers, and mountain bikers.

A special feature of the park is the Great Spirit Path, the project of Menlo Park artist Susan Dunlap, designed to draw more visitors to the park. I encourage everyone to read more about the project and to visit the installation, it is free and very interesting.

This path was the main focus of our efforts. 23 Delphix employees, wielding shovels, rakes, paint brushes, and flags revived 1200 feet of trails that had become overgrown and in disrepair. This task involved raking weeds, filling wheelbarrows with mulch and spreading it across the hilly trails to make the Spirit Path more accessible.

A very different skill set from the software development lifestyle we normally sport, but we enjoyed being outside, doing some manual labor, and seeing the immediate results. Many thanks to the city of Menlo Park for organizing the activity and providing all the supplies, Susan Dunlap for supervising the project and making sure we stayed on task, and to Cheng Li at Delphix for organizing the event, herding the cats, and keeping us hydrated.

Finally, thanks to Delphix for not only being a great place to work, but also supporting the community in which we live.
