WeAreDelphix: Meet David Watson

In this spotlight, get to know David Watson on the Channel Partners team. Based in Texas, he shares his favorite part about working at Delphix, his passion for traveling, and best piece of career advice.

What do you do at Delphix and what inspired you to join the company?

I’m the channel sales manager for the central region of the U.S. and Canada. I’m responsible for building and leveraging strategic channel partnerships to grow the business. I enjoy my work at Delphix for three reasons: 1) my role is highly entrepreneurial, and 2) the product is world-class technology, 3) and I have the opportunity to work and develop my skills alongside incredibly talented people.

The professionals I met throughout the interview process were especially impactful in my decision to join the company. I was inspired by their commitment to excellence and becoming a market leader in the data space. Delphix’s unique value proposition to customers and the people who work here continue to motivate me to bring my best self to work everyday.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on at Delphix?

Being part of the core team responsible for revamping our channel go-to market strategy. I’ve had the opportunity to help rework and execute everything from the types of partnerships we target, to the commercial terms, and incentives offered with those partnerships. Our team is a close knit, collaborative group led by a results-driven and inspirational leader, Mike Xenakis.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of Delphix?

Before the pandemic, I was really into traveling. I’ve been to 14 countries over the past 5 years and plan to resume travelling once it’s safe to do so. The most beautiful place I’ve visited is Iceland. My personal favorite based on how liveable the country appeared is Australia.

What show are you binge watching?

Nothing currently, but my all-time favorite shows are: Scrubs, Game of Thrones, and The 100.

You can ask me anything about…?

Where to find the best barbecue in Austin, Texas.

Songs that make your personal soundtrack:

  1. The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It

  2. The Outfield - Your Love

What drives you everyday?

The desire to get better and learn. I’ve been incredibly fortunate throughout my career to have extraordinary mentors and people who have believed in me. This has led to opportunities that have enabled me to grow both personally and professionally. I’d be wasting this opportunity if I didn’t learn something valuable everyday and help others too.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

There are two sayings that have stuck with me for a long time. The first is the 3 H’s: Help others. Stay honest. Be humble. What I’ve always appreciated about this is that it can be applied to every aspect of your life. No matter what you believe in or how you were raised, I firmly believe they form a solid morale foundation. Whether it’s with a client or channel partner, friends or family, or a romantic relationship, the 3 H’s can help establish trust in a person and a business. The second is the importance of trust. While people want to work with people who they like, people also want to work forever with people who they trust. I’ve always appreciated how they go hand in hand.
