WeAreDelphix: Meet Nitin Sharma

What do you do at Delphix and what inspired you to join the company?

Based in our India office, I’m part of the technical services team as senior principal engineer. I am responsible for making sure that our product delivers as promised to our customers. Prior to joining Delphix, I was a customer for almost 7 years at Britain's largest state-owned bank, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), and Fidelity International. Being on the customer side helped me realize the potential of Delphix and learn about all the innovative ways our product can support enterprises in their digital transformation journeys.

I have more than a decade of experience working with Oracle database technologies and have implemented Delphix’s data virtualization technology for various customers. It’s amazing to see the transformation of these companies as they move from using legacy approaches to modern test data management (TDM) solutions. Using production-like, realistic data made available by the Delphix platform, our customers know how the use of relevant data can be a game changer for the business.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on at Delphix?

One of my favorite projects at Delphix is with a multinational commodity trading and mining company based in Europe. We were brought on to automate data delivery in their DevOps workflows, and to support specifically their oil trading application running on SAP ASE and SAP IQ. We used the virtualization SDK to build out a SAP IQ plugin and got it up and running in less than 3 days. We helped virtualize data for 3 other data sources, including Oracle, MSSQL server, and SAP ASE. It was an excellent collaboration among our internal teams (that’s why we call ourselves #oneteam) that helped us win a 3-year deal.

What are your hobbies or passions outside of Delphix?

I love creating content, whether it’s through my food blog/vlog or photography. I’m passionate about exploring new places to try different food and cuisines, and I try to keep that passion alive by capturing those moments in real-time and sharing it with the world.

What drives you everyday?

Continuous learning and helping others. The desire to learn one new thing everyday is something that's close to my heart. We can learn from anyone, whether it’s the CEO of your company, friends, a child, maybe even a street side vendor. I also enjoy helping others in any way I can. It might be a customer looking for a unique solution or a team member stuck on some technical issue. It gives me immense satisfaction when I see someone with a smiling face.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Believe in yourself and always follow your passion. One shouldn’t hesitate to try new things. The expert in everything was once a beginner. “Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it,” American football player and coach Louis Leo Holtz famously quotes.
