WeAreDelphix: Roma Mehta

Meet Roma Mehta, QA manager and leader of the Women's ERG, in our latest employee spotlight series. Read about Roma's love for traveling and her favorite project since she joined the company seven years ago.

What do you do at Delphix and what inspired you to join the company?

I’m a QA Manager at Delphix, working on the front-end team that tests and automates different aspects of the Delphix platform, including the virtualization engine, self-service, and mission control. My teams based in California and Argentina cover all test gaps to make sure we deliver sound releases every 2 months, so our customers are able to leverage the platform for their business needs.

I also lead our Women’s Engineering Resource Group (ERG), organizing events and talks to enrich the careers and personal lives of our female engineers at the company. I’ve been with Delphix for seven years now, and I was inspired to join the company because of the incredible possibilities of the Delphix platform. Over the years, I’ve witnessed so much growth and the platform has become so much more than I originally envisioned when I first joined. Data is such an important asset today for modern businesses today, and it’s exciting to know that some of the world’s top companies use the Delphix platform to access fast, secure data for faster innovation and stay ahead of their competition.

You can ask me anything about…?

Front-end testing! For the past seven years, I’ve worked extensively on this at Delphix. We’ve gone from having the front-end in Flash to re-writing it using Angular, which means we’ve moved into fully automated workflows.

I also have experience performing extensive manual testing and writing customer-like workflows for all the flavors of our product. We’ve worked hard to cover the functional aspects of the product as well as the usability, longevity, performance, and stress testing of the front-end to make sure the product is enterprise ready.

What’s the coolest project you’ve worked on at Delphix?

The coolest project I’ve worked on is the front-end automation framework that I built from scratch. I chose Selenium with Python, the best suited front-end automation framework, and implemented it in a scalable pattern. What I love about working here is how I’ve been given the chance to own and develop an entire testing framework and integrate it in our existing one called Blackbox. Until this day, our new features are automated using this same framework, and our teams use almost every single day.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t ever stop learning and growing as a person. Learning is a constant process, and learning from others is extremely valuable because every individual has something to offer!

What’s your secret talent?

I have a huge passion to travel and learn about different countries, cultures, and histories. Growing up in India, I did quite some traveling within the country. After taking my first flight out of India to pursue my Master’s at Rutgers University, the hunger to learn more, see more, and experience continued to grow. Here’s one of my favorite traveling quotes: “Traveling- it leaves you speechless, and then it turns you into a storyteller.”

What drives you every day?

Working with smart engineers on a very cool team. I love working on the front-end team because I can see direct impact on our customers and get real-time feedback from them. Knowing how we are offering so much value through what we build is very rewarding for me personally.
